Love Hangover

Photographer: eibm
Wardrobe Stylist/Model/Makeup Artist/Hair Stylist: Xiaying Deng

My name is Roc Marsh, and I’m the owner and CEO of EIBM Photography, a creative studio based in Chicago. With a foundation in fine arts and a self-taught approach to photography, my work often draws from emotional nuance and cultural texture — aiming to tell stories that are as honest as they are visually compelling.

For this project, I had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with Starr (Xiayeng). It was her very first time stepping in front of the camera as a model, but you wouldn’t have guessed it. From the very beginning, there was an effortless connection between us — a shared rhythm that shaped the entire shoot. Our chemistry felt natural and intuitive, making the creative process both seamless and fulfilling.

We selected Chinatown in Chicago as the setting — a vibrant neighborhood steeped in history, rich traditions, and an atmosphere of sensory delight. The location gave us a dynamic backdrop that elevated every frame with its textures, colors, and cultural echoes. Starr brought her own wardrobe for the shoot, selecting pieces that paid homage to her heritage while still expressing a modern, individual flair. Her sense of style added depth and personal meaning to each image we captured.

What stood out most was how Starr carried herself. Despite being new to modeling, she moved with a quiet confidence and grace that needed very little direction. She mentioned that she had learned a great deal from watching America’s Next Top Model, and it showed — not just in her poses, but in her understanding of presence and performance. It was a joy to witness her grow more comfortable in front of the lens with each shot.

This collaboration was more than just a shoot — it was a celebration of new beginnings, cultural pride, and creative synergy. Starr brought a depth and spirit to the project that was both refreshing and inspiring. I’m grateful to have captured a story that reflects both where she comes from and where she’s headed.

Working with emerging talent like Starr reminds me why I do what I do — to honor stories that matter, and to create imagery that resonates far beyond the frame.
